Psalm 65:11 "Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness."
God's grace has certainly been sufficient for the past and will continue to be so in 2011. It has been said that yesterday's regrets and tomorrow's fears can rob you of today's blessings. Jesus taught us to live one day at a time. Matt. 6:34 "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." In this passage, Matt. 6:25-34, Jesus is teaching us that his grace is sufficient to meet our daily needs. We should have no anxiety for tomorrow for our heavenly Father knows our needs. How do we face the new year? One day at a time, trusting in God's faithfulness. Here are three thoughts for facing the new year.
1. Learn from the past. Paul said in Phillippians 3:13 "....this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind," As a born again Christian, your past is under the blood of Jesus. Learn from it and move on. If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior and genuinely confessed your sins as a Christian, don't let Satan keep you regretting the past. Trust in God's forgiveness!
2. Live for Christ today. Philippians 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ..." Take advantage of the opportunities that you have today to minister to others. Don't be so focused on self that you fail to notice those that God places around you that need the gospel or the concern of a brother or sister in Christ.
3. Look to the future Philippians 1:14 "...and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus..." It is certainly wise to have plans and goals for the coming year. This is a good time for each of us to individually and as families to set some goals to help in our spiritual growth for the new year: Bible reading, prayer, church attendance, soul-winning, tithing, etc.
Let's face 2011 with the blessed hope that this may be the year, even the very day, that Jesus will return for his church!
